THE DRIFT WALK
By

I took a walk through the Zoo
Not knowing what I would do
Noticing signs were alphabetized
The ABC’s came to mind
Following a pathway of design
Along the way came Section A
I walked towards the building Apes
Across were Geese on land and lake
There was a driveway outside Apes place
An employee entry way near two vents
Those were in reach the others fenced
MIC’s spread apart atop two spaced
This area’s sounds from vents were captured
Along with Geese noise made then and there after
I followed the path B, C, D, and E
At F outside Family Farm sound astounded me
MIC’s place atop a cloth bag on the ground
As I sat on the concrete came the train sound
Along with feet patter
And some strangers chatter
At the Zoo made Drift one and two best
I found those sounds worthy and true
I took another Drift walk some days later too
Between 111th Street to 108th Street West
Near streets close to Donna and Heather
Walking by buildings through open fields
In back of the Condos a lamp post so still
MIC sat on power box of lamp post sound better
Sound coming from 107th and driveway traffic
With an unseen bird’s chirping was terrific
Along fell rain drizzle on the MIC and Disc player
Listen it sound like popping on my track layer
In the same area between two garages stood a tree
Placing the MIC on the tree in a groove shaped like a V
Recorded traffic combined it with chirp and rain drizzle
Making this a combination for Drift three a sizzle
I can say I got my exercise on those days
Since walking for pleasure is not on my agenda
I must admit the sounds varied in many ways
Many sounds were found that I shall remember
